Our Crazy Journey

Our adventure began in 2011, with a simple craving and a whole lot of love.

Occasionally, my wife Joy would make a homemade BBQ sauce that I absolutely loved. One day, home alone in our townhome and craving that sauce, I realized we had never written down her recipe. So, I turned to the internet to research what went into BBQ sauce and began experimenting in the kitchen.

That first batch—what would become our Sweet Mesquite—was good, but way too vinegary. I kept refining it, and along the way, Hickory Heat was born too. I wanted our sauces to be uniquely ours, not copied from anywhere, so I trusted my instincts and taste buds.

Joy was incredibly supportive. Eventually, I brought a few bottles to work for a potluck. The response was overwhelming. One coworker even said, “You should sell this!”

At the time, Joy was already working craft fairs, selling her gorgeous handmade wreaths, and she graciously offered to include the sauces on her table. To our surprise and excitement, they were a hit!

We needed a name. Our sons and I started brainstorming and thought it’d be funny to see a pig at a BBQ—of course, he’d have to be crazy! And just like that, Crazy Pig was born.

Since then, we’ve grown from those first two sauces to over 25 unique and familiar flavors. In the last few years, we’ve expanded into spice blends, dry rubs, and dip mixes. Our children have grown up right alongside the business, tagging along to farmers markets, craft fairs, and all sorts of events. Crazy Pig really is a family-run business, built with love, creativity, and community.

Neither Joy nor I ever expected to be creating, producing, and selling sauces and spices for a living—but here we are, and we absolutely love it.

Our passion for food has become a way to live out our calling. Our faith in Christ shapes how we run our business, and it's given us a deep love for people and relationships. Through Crazy Pig, we've met some of the most amazing individuals—many of whom have become close friends.

We’re especially thankful for our loyal customers, who keep coming back, offering ideas and encouragement that fuel our creativity. We’re also deeply grateful to our supportive friends and family who have cheered us on in countless ways.

We don’t know exactly what the future holds, but we’re excited—and grateful—to have you along for this unexpected and wonderful journey.
